THE PLOT
+
Our StoryThe year is 2030 and humanity is enjoying a bit of a technological renaissance. Holograms are now common and often used for advertisements, live entertainment, or art pieces. Virtual reality is incredibly immersive, almost like a second reality. Mobile and internet networks are faster and more robust than ever and reach further than they once did. The past few years have been kind to humanity and many think this is heralding of a golden age.
It is all thanks to DigiCorp.
DigiCorp is the newest titan of the tech industry and has quickly outgrown its old guard competitors. Beginning as a company experimenting with new computer chips, the world took note of DigiCorp almost immediately as it was noted how robust their work was, practically making their contemporaries looking like they had just come out of the Stone Age. DigiCorp exploded-- soon, there was a great demand for their tech everywhere and the success of its hardware allowed it to balloon practically overnight. Soon DigiCorp was experimenting with Artificial Intelligence, augmented reality technology, and, of course, various software to utilize their technology. They could do it all and nobody could quite understand how. All anyone knew was that the young founder of DigiCorp, Robin Wu, and their close associates seemed to have made some kind of revolutionary breakthrough, all in Rivercrest, far from the cradle of technology in Silicon Valley.
In fact, because of their insistence on staying close to their roots, Rivercrest has supplanted Silicon Valley as the capital of technology. Other companies moved to be close to them or sprang up in their shadow to try and capitalize on this boom. It put Rivercrest on the map, shone the spotlight on it and it has gone through a boom. And DigiCorp seems glad for it and seeks to cultivate it further. DigiCorp is involved in various community projects, both domestically and abroad. The founders are dedicated to humanitarian causes. IN fact, they have recently opened a prestigious private academy in the countryside outside Rivercrest and are selectively inviting certain students in order to rear a new generation.
But things are not idyllic. In recent months, strange events have been happening around Rivercrest. Technology seems to glitch out dramatically or tragedies seem to spring up from nowhere. People even whisper of seeing flashes of strange apparitions at times, as if there were independent holograms that existed for only a moment before flickering out of existence. The urban legends of Rivercrest have been a hotbed of conspiracy in recent months, but the official explanation from authorities and DigiCorp is that much of this chaos is being caused by a rogue hacker sect and they are working tirelessly to dismantle it. . . but some folks are not so sure.
In truth, this chaos is being caused by turmoil within the Digital World. The two worlds have generally always run parallel and been intertwined, though generally in subtle ways. In recent months, however, distortion has been eating away at the Digital World and has caused issues in the real world as Digimon are finding themselves transported to our physical world, whereas before they had generally been limited to simply being able to interact with our networks in minute ways.
And the Digital World faces a danger beyond distorion. Digimon are being driven mad by this force and some evil Digimon are seeking to capitalize on this chaos or take the power of distortion for themselves and bring the Digital World to heel and install themselves as despots. And with the old fabled forces of the Digital World like the Royal Knights or Olympus XII nowhere to be found since ancient times, many begin to wonder if all hope is lost for the Digital World.
But yet there is hope.
As it just so happens, Chosen Children-- Digidestined-- are just on the horizon. Soon, humans will walk the Digital World with partner Digimon of their own, hopefully to restore order and snuff out this distortion at its root. As they embark on their adventure, what secrets await them? DigiCorp and its mysterious academy, the unknown fate of the legends of the Digital World, the murky origins of Digimon, the distortion, and how the fate of two worlds are intertwined. . .
This is the story of mankind and Digital Monsters.
